How it Works

Each Season, A New Set of Skills

The year is divided into four seasons which focus on 12-15 skills that connect to the time of year (stewing and braising skills in the winter, composed salads and grilling in the summer, etc.). These skills are used crossed functionally in all classes during a season so you can see and use them in a variety of context and ingredients.

How do I earn a Skill Medallion?

Some students earn their medallion after just one class, and some need to repeat the class a few times before they master the concept. Students will need to pass an exit exam and demonstrate mastery of the skill to their instructor, who will give approval for the Medallion.

Why do you teach skills and not just recipes?

We follow the adage, “Give a person a fish, and you feed them for a day; teach them to fish and you feed them for a lifetime.” Skillette classes teach one skill at a time so students can master the basics and use them for making delicious dinners of all kinds of cuisines.

Are there prerequisites for classes?

There are no prerequisites to attend Skillette! Students of all levels and experience are welcome to attend any class and can start a subscription and join Skillette at any point in the quarter. What do I need to bring to class?
