This November, Skillette is delighted to welcome Amber Eisler, Baking School Director at King Arthur Baking, to Washington, D.C. for a Holiday Baking Residency at Union Market. Amber will travel from Vermont to lead a long weekend of exceptional baking experiences, highlighted by a Three Day Artisan Bread Intensive, and complemented by two festive master classes devoted to holiday pies and cinnamon rolls.
More than a class schedule, this residency is a rare opportunity to study with one of the nation’s most accomplished bakers, to work side by side in the kitchen, and to carry home not only recipes but also ritual for the season ahead.
About Amber Eisler
Amber has been part of King Arthur Baking since 2003, when she began as a bread baker in the Norwich, Vermont bakery. Today she directs King Arthur’s schools in Vermont, Washington State, and online, while continuing to teach herself. She is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and a Certified Bread Baker and Certified Viennoiserie Baker through the Bread Bakers Guild of America.
Amber’s love of baking started early. Her mother’s patience in including her in projects as a child, and her father’s late-night habit of baking loaves, sparked a lifelong devotion to bread. She is celebrated for her ability to pair technical mastery with warmth, inspiring bakers at every level.
Residency Offerings
Three Day Artisan Bread Intensive
Friday November 7 to Sunday November 9, 10 am – 2 pm daily
Bread is a daily ritual that remains one of the most special acts of cooking. To learn breadmaking is to acquire lifelong skills, rooted in patience, fermentation, and the simple elegance of shaping by hand.
In this three day intensive, Amber will lead students through the complete cycle of artisan breadmaking, from mixing and fermentation to shaping and baking. Together, we will bake a collection of breads that showcase the craft in all its forms: focaccia, whole wheat dinner rolls, golden wheat crackers, simit, naan, French bread, chocolate babka, and an additional sweet dough application.
This immersive experience includes:
- Three full days of instruction with Amber Eisler
- A Skillette apron and select baking tools
- A copy of The King Arthur Baking Company’s All Purpose Baker’s Companion
- Many baked goods to enjoy and take home
- Beverages during class and lunch from Union Market
- Reserve Your Seat for the Bread Intensive
Early Bird (through October 1): $1100 per person
Standard (after October 1): $1200 per person
Holiday Pies Masterclass
Saturday November 8, 3 pm – 5:30 pm
We may enjoy pie as the final course, yet it is the foundation of the American holiday table. At its heart is the crust: buttery, flaky, and made entirely from scratch. In this class, students will learn the techniques of rolling, crimping, and par baking, and will prepare a classic apple pie with crumble topping. Each guest will leave with a pie ready to bake or to freeze, perfect for a special gathering.

Cinnamon Rolls Masterclass
Sunday November 9, 3 pm – 5:30 pm
Few rituals feel as luxurious as warm cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven. In this class, Amber will teach King Arthur’s celebrated Perfectly Pillowy Cinnamon Rolls — soft, enriched dough filled with cinnamon sugar and finished with vanilla icing. Students will practice enriched yeasted dough techniques and leave with a pan of rolls ready to bake at home or freeze for a leisurely morning.
